Abstract
Owning 1,244 hectares of sandy land that can be used for intensive shrimp farming, until 2030, Ha Tinh has great advantages and potentials to develop on-sand shrimp farming. Additionally, the water supply for shrimp farming is clear and clean, which can be taken directly from the sea regardless of the tidal range’s magnitude. With these advantages, the model of on-sand shrimp farming has been proved to be successful and suitable for local fi shermen with the output reached 7 - 20 tons/ha. The model of on-sand shrimp farming started from 2005. Until 2018, the farming area reached 38.4 - 50% compared to the master plan for the period of 2015 - 2020. In the shrimp farming process, some negative impacts on environment caused by shrimp farming have been recorded (sea water and groundwater) due to waste from on-sand shrimp including soil salinization and depletion of fresh and groundwater resources. To promote the sustainable development of on - land shrimp in Ha Tinh, some synchronous technical solutions and management were required. Investment in infrastructure must be synchronous, economic, social security and environmental safety. In addition, it is required to apply eco – shrimp farming model which requires less water, energy saving, environmental management and disease control.
