Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of various types of diets, initial stocking densities on the population growth of M. macrocopa. Experiment 1 was performed to assess the influence of different types of diet on the population development of M. macrocopa. Four different diets were used: baker’s yeast, dried Spirulina, cooked egg yolk, and commercial shrimp feed. Simultaneously, the effect of initial stocking density was studied at four levels: 300, 400, 500, and 600 individuals per liter (ind./L). Each treatment was replicated three times. The results showed that the best growth was observed in the M. macrocopa population fed with baker's yeast, which reached the maximum density of 2753±205 ind./L and the maximum specific population growth rate of 0.28±0.01 day-1 on day the 7th. Growth rates were faster, and peak densities were reached 1 to 2 days earlier for the lower stocking density treatments than for the higher density. Specifically, the treatment 300 ind./L achieved a growth rate of 0.28±0.01 day⁻¹ on day 6 and its maximum density (1753±68 ind./L) on day 7. In contrast, the 600 ind./L treatment showed the highest growth rate (0.30±0.01 day -1) and reached the highest density of 6407±231 ind./L on the 7th day. The results provide a scientific basis for the optimization of the culture protocols for M. macrocopa biomass as a live feed in aquaculture seed production.
