Abstract

Nha Trang Bay is one of the exceptional natural models of the lagoon - bay system in the world with typical ecosystems for tropical waters such as seagrass beds, coral reefs, mangroves etc. The composition of seaweed species in Nha Trang Bay is highly abundant. However, research on seaweed distributed on coral reefs is still limited. Our scuba sampling was carried out in June 2020 at 6 stations: Bai Tru, Northeast Hon Tre, Southwest Hon Tre, Hon Dung, Hon Mieu and Grand Bank reef. The species composition and the coverage of seaweed were conducted under the support of SCUBA. In total, 114 seaweed species have been identified. Among these, the southwestern area of Hon Tre showed richest species composition (71 species) and the lowest one was Grand Bank (24 species). In general, the seaweed composition and coverage in the shallow zone was higher than that in the deep zone of coral reefs. This study contributed to the data of seaweed in Nha Trang Bay, and could be served for conservation and management of fisheries resources.
