Abstract

    The study uses data from a survey of 34 households who are involve in accordion-shaped traps fishery in Hoai Nhon town, Binh Dinh province. Research results show that all these households have not equipped machinery and supportive fishing equipment; fishing boats in this fishery are very rudimentary, fishers mainly use circled-boats; number of accordion-shaped traps used by fishers in fishing is from 25 to 90 traps, the stretched mesh size of the body and the butt part is equally 16 mm and are imported from China. The main catches of the accordion-shaped fishery in Hoai Nhon include 8 main species: Maned goby (Oxyurichthys microlepis), Greasyback shrimp (Metapenaeus ensis), Giant mud crab (Scylla serrata), Sand goby (Glossogobius giuris), Fragile cardinalfish (Apogon fragilis), Brown - spotted grouper (Epinephelus coioides), Giant tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) and Mantis shrimp (Oratosquillina interrupta). In which, Greasyback shrimp (Metapenaeus ensis) and Maned goby (Oxyurichthys microlepis) are the two main caught species and have the highest catch proportion are 25.43% and 28.89% respectively.
