Abstract
In this paper, a part of the study results on evaluating the use of fishing vessel monitoring (VMS) installed on the vessels in 2 sea trips were presented. The study results showed that: i) The VMS Thuraya SF2500, Vifish.18 and BA-SAT01 installed respectively on vessels of Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa and Quang Nam province whose features meet regulatory requirements; ii) signal transmission level showed that Thuraya SF2500 reached the highest of 141%, Vifish.18 reached the highest of 152% while BA-SAT01 exceeded 8 times higher than the minimum requirements; iii) the longest T period of Thuraya SF2500 was 13h38’ and the Vifish.18 was 8h00’, while BA-SAT01 did not have the T period. In addition, the VMS had good response to tracking the vessel on the sea, the software language was in Vietnamese that effectively helped fishermen to use, low power consumption; the VMS cost was about 20 million VNĐ. The study also showed that the process of management and decentralization in using data on VMS was crucial important.
