Abstract

    The method of the study used directly survey from owners of trawl fishing vessels and householders of marine aquaculture: evaluate economic indexes such as investment capital, input costs, revenue, profits ... of marine aquaculture compared to trawl fishing acting in coastal areas of Van Don district during the period of 2014 to 2016. The thesis carried out a pilot model of changing job from an owner of trawl fishing boat to fish cage-culture in Thang Loi commune, Van Don district in 2017. The results showed that the cage farming had an investment of 1.63 times compared to trawl fishing but the profit was 4.69 times higher than the trawl fishing; the profit per invested capital of cage-culture was 2.88 times and the salary of workers per hour of cage fish farming was 1.83 times higher than trawl fishing. Based on the economic efficiency of the pilot model, it should carry out the solution in order to change 148 owners of trawl fishing vessels to marine aquaculture in Van Don district. There were 96/148 ship owners who voluntarily applied to marine farming, accounted for 64.8% of the total number of trawl fishing boats in Van Don district; in which 56 ship owners completely changed their jobs from 2017 to 2018. The results of the solution contributed significantly to the protection and development of local fisheries resources in particular and the whole country in general.
