Abstract

This study determined morphological characteristics and biomass of Moina macrocopa that played the role as a natural food in aquaculture pond, contributing to propose solution to efficient use this source of food. The study was carried out in the fish ponds of empirical farm at Ninh Phung - Ninh Hoa. M. macrocopa has a large round head compared to the body. The eyes of M. macrocopa are large but not spots sharp. Head and body covered with long hairs. Postabdomen has from seven to ten lateral feathered teeth and one short bident tooth. Ephippium is located on the dorsal surface and usually contains two eggs. M. macrocopa was distributed in all fish ponds, reservoirs and waste water pond. However, the density of M. macrocopa species devided by Cladocera density was very low. The density of M. macrocopa species devided by Cladocera density was highest (5.89 ± 3.80%) in commercial fish ponds, lowest (0.71 ± 0.62%) in carp nurseries.
