Abstract

The study of the value chain of the snakeskin gourami in Ca Mau was conducted via survey of 138 respondents to analyze the status of actors participating in the value chain, recognizing important consumption channels, and analyzing the financial efficiency of each marketing channel in the value chain. Survey results show that input suppliers (feed, aquatic medicine and breeds) take on the role of fully supplying and serving well for the production state. However, the majority of fingerlings are supplied from neighboring provinces. Households farming snakeskin gourami in Ca Mau have a yield of 26.8 tons/ha/crop, corresponding to a profit of 548.8 million VND/ha/crop. The wholesalers and processors of snakeskin gourami perform well in the functional role of the market. There are 4 market channels of dried snakeskin gourami and 2 market channels of fresh fish. The dried fish consumption channel in the province through wholesalers and dry processing facilities generates the highest profit (74.0 thousand VND/kg). The channel of fresh snakeskin gourami consumed in the province through traders and retailers generates the highest profit (32.1 thousand VND/kg). The study has recommended a solution to organize stable production for the snakeskin gourami value chain in Ca Mau province is to invest in seed production and improve product branding.
