Abstract

Base on the data from the yield and fishing effort of fishing gears in Nghe An seawaters from 2017 to 2022, the study used surplus production model of Schaefer (1954) was applied to estimate the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) and the maximum sustainable fishing effort (fMSY). Results showed that the MSY in the coastal and inshore seawaters of Nghe An were 58,338 tons: the trawls were 32,652 tons, the gill nets were 12,312 tons, the purse seine were 2,507 tons, the hand line and longline were 468 tons, the stick-held falling were 5,570 tons, the trap were 615 tons and the others were 4,214 tons. The fMSY in coastal and inshore seawaters of Nghe An were 2,483 fishing vessels: the gill nets were 1,429 vessels, the trawls were 483 vessels, the hand line and longline were 147 vessels, the trap were 137 vessels, the stick-held falling were 75 vessels, the purse seine were 22 vessels and the others were 190 vessels. The total fishing effort was higher than fMSY around 20.8%. In which, the trap were higher than the fMSY around 29.2%, the gill nets were higher than the fMSY around 27.5% and the trawls were higher than the fMSY around 2.3%; the fishing effort of purse seine, hand line and longline and the stick-held falling were lower than the maximum sustainable fishing effort.

Keywords: the maximum sustainable yield, the maximum sustainable fishing effort, the coastal and inshore seawaters of Nghe An
