Abstract

The survey was conducted to evaluate the techniques and economic efficiency of white hard clam farming in Hoa Binh district, Bac Lieu province of 20 sample of clam farming. The results show that the clam farming model on the tidal flats in this locality has the following technical characteristics: average farming area/household 13.93 ± 3.90 ha, stocking size of clams 3,825 ± 634 clams/kg, stocking amount 1.59 ± 0.58 tons/ha, stocking density 422.5 ± 41.2 ind./m2, culture period 17.53 ± 0.84 months, harvested clam size 62.25 ± 4.57 ind./kg, survival rate 58.50 ± 6.71% and average farming productivity 10.60 ± 3.77 tons/ha/crop. Economic efficiency of the clam farming model: commercial clam price 20,750 ± 2,881 thousand VND/kg, production costs 120.44 ± 40.24 million VND/ha/crop, revenue 223.72 ± 102.24 million VND/ha/crop. Average profit 103.28 ± 70.83 million VND/ha/crop and profit ratio 83.7 ± 0.34 %. The survey also showed that farmers are aware of the impact of environmental factors, weather and climate change. The difficulties they are facing such as water environment and some issues of farming techniques. From there, some solutions have been suggested to ensure sustainable development of clam farming in the locality.
