Abstract

Genetic selection for growth improvement has been carried out on white leg shrimp starting from 2012. By 2022, the whiteleg shrimp breeding program has achieved certain results and selected to eighth generation (G8). This paper presents the results of studying genetic parameters for the family selection in the G8.  Total of 120 shrimp families selected for G8 were bred from 105 male and 120 female shrimp, including 90 full-sib and 30 half-sib families. The heritability of the length trait of the selected shrimp was low for shrimp cultured in ponds at 0.10 ± 0.02 and high for shrimp cultured in tanks was 0.44 ± 0.09. For the weight trait, shrimp cultured in ponds reached 0.14 ± 0.03 and shrimp cultured in tanks reached 0.50 ± 0.10. Phenotypic correlation (rp), cultured in ponds was 0.98 ± 0.007; cultured in tanks was 0.95 ± 0.012; both environments (pond + tank) were 0.96 ± 0.013. Genotype correlation (rg) cultured in ponds was 0.92 ± 0.002; cultured in tanks 0.86 ± 0.006; both environments (pond + tank) were 0.90 ± 0.002. The efficiency of breeding in tanks was 6.65% and 6.56% for the length trait. Shrimp cultured in ponds, the selection efficiency reached 6.47% for the weight trait and 6.74% for the length trait.
