Abstract
The study was conducted to determine the species composition, density, and distribution of fish eggs and larvae in the coastal and inshore waters of southern Da Nang City in 2025. Fish eggs and larvae were collected at 20 survey stations during the Northeast and Southwest monsoon seasons using surface and vertical tow nets. Species composition was identified based on morphological characteristics in combination with specialized taxonomic identification references. A total of 36 families and 38 fish species or species groups were recorded. The ichthyoplankton assemblage mainly comprised small pelagic, demersal, and coastal fish groups. The family Engraulidae was dominant at the egg stage, whereas Gobiidae, Platycephalidae, Carangidae, and Nemipteridae were dominant at the larval stage. The mean densities of fish eggs and larvae were 2,068 eggs/1,000 m³ and 498 individuals/1,000 m³, respectively. Fish eggs were mainly concentrated in the southern coastal area, while larval concentration areas varied between the two monsoon seasons. The southern coastal and inshore areas were important concentration areas for fish eggs and larvae, providing a basis for identifying potential spawning and nursery grounds and supporting sustainable fisheries management in the region.
