Abstract
In this study, 384 seafood sellers at the fish markets in Phu Yen province were interviewed by the direct interview method with a previously designed questionnaire. The results of the survey showed that: in the fish markets the majority of the seafood sellers was female (87.5%), mainly in the working age (18-40 years old). In the fish markets the rate of the seafood sellers having seniority over 5 years were the highest (57.2%). The educational level attained by the majority of the seafood sellers was primary and secondary. Television was the most efficient information source on food safety and was approached by many seafood sellers. 79.7% seafood sellers met requirements on the seafood safety knowledge, 42.2% of the seafood sellers met requirements on the seafood safety attitude and 89.8% seafood sellers met requirements on the seafood safety practice. There was a positive correlation between knowledge, attitude and practice on the seafood safety. The seafood sellers had high knowledge points; they would also have high attitude points and high practice points (p<0.05). Therefore, it is necessary to enhance the media and education about seafood safety for these employees in order to change their attitude and practice to raise the efficiency of seafood safety management in Phu Yen.
