Abstract

  Vaccination have proven to be a highly effective and economical approach in protecting aquatic animals from infectious pathogens, while contributing to developing an environmentally friendly aquaculture industry that meets human health concerns. Advances in science have opened up new avenues to develop and design new and effective vaccines, as well as improve existing vaccines to protect aquatic lives from various infectious diseases. This article focuses on current knowledge, recent advances and the future direction of vaccines in the aquaculture industry, from traditional inactivated vaccines to next-generation vaccines including subunits, genetic modification, and DNA vaccines.
