Abstract

Along with the growth of seafood processing industry is the problem of waste treatment and wastewater generated in the processing process. This is an issue that needs more and more attention to protect the environment. However, there is still not much information about wastewater characteristics as well as wastewater treatment systems at seafood processing enterprises in provinces. Therefore, this study was conducted in 23 seafood processing enterprises in Khanh Hoa and Kien Giang provinces with the aim of collecting multidimensional information through questionnaires related to the general characteristics of the enterprises and wastewater treatment system, combined with collection and analyzing the wastewater input of system. The results show that the wastewater characteristics of enterprises fluctuate according to the materials and often contain high organic substances and suspended solids (COD: 800 – 3000 mg/L, BOD5: 600 – 2400 mg/L, TSS: 70 -400 mg/L); Physico-chemical treatment combining biological methods and biological methods using UASB anaerobic tanks are applied mostly in wastewater treatment systems at enterprises in Khanh Hoa and Kien Giang provinces. The results have provided necessary information for researchs on wastewater treatment technology for seafood processing and related issues.
