Abstract
Vietnam in general and Khanh Hoa province in particular are facing a range of problems in fisheries activities as illegal, unreport and unregulated fishing (IUU fishing), such as: building and revising legal documents to meet international needs (Yellow card from EC), processes on traceability and combating IUU fishing. This study assessed several aspects on implementing the combat of IUU fishing in Khanh Hoa province fisheries. The results show that: i) fishermen’s awareness about IUU fishing are strongly low (6.45%), Khanh Hoa fishing vessels violate the fishing ground and season (100%); ii) about 70% of fishermen believed that fishing ground are significantly reduced due to combating IUU fishing and iii) many fishermen are not satisfied about the procedures and service attitude of fisheries authorities. There should be solutions to improve the awareness of fishermen, the role and responsibility of fisheries authorities. Also, the vessel monitoring system should be inplemented for off-shore fishing vessels in Khanh Hoa province to combate IUU fishing and traceability.
