Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effects of exogenous hormones (hCG and LHRH-A+DOM) on testicular biochemical compositions of the 1+ year old rabbitfish reared in earthen ponds in Khanh Hoa province. The experiment was conducted with 3 treatments; each treatment had 20 fish injected with (i) 1500 IU hCG/kg of body weight (BW); (ii) binary of 50 μg LHRH-A and 5 mg DOM/kg of BW; (iii) 1 ml saline water/kg of BW as the control fish. After 12-h and 24-h of injection, the fish were euthanized for collecting testes to assess the maturation and analyze biochemical composition. The results showed that in the hCG treatment, the content of protein, lipid and moisture pre-injection were 14.80±0.05 (%), 11.91±0.10 (%) and 79.23±0.10 (%) respectively. After 24-h of injection, the protein content increased to 16.25 ± 0.05 (%); contrarily, lipid content and moisture decreased by 8.27±0.10 (%) and 59.56±0.10 (%) respectively. Meanwhile, at 24-h post injection, the binary LHRH-A and DOM treatment reduced the testicle protein content and moiture to 12.44±0.05 (%) and 72.32±0.01 (%), respectively. The contents of ash and lipid in the fish injected with the binary LHRH-A and DOM did not change significantly.
