Abstract
The study was carried out during August 2017 to June 2018 to evaluate the efficiency of oyster culture using tyre and cement substrata in Can Gio. The study investigated 95 oyster farming households in three areas (KV), KV I (21 households), KV II (17 households), KV III (57 households) with three forms of culture by tire subtrate (38 households), floating cement plate subtrate (9 households) and submerged cement plate subtrate (48 households). The survey results show that oyster farming by tire subtrate is popular in KV I and KV II, while the form of cement plate subtrate is popular in KV III. The substrate stocking time for three areas is concentrated in March and April, with an additional stocking in August and September for KV III. The average oyster density on the tire substrate at KV I and KV II were 3.2 and 2.4 oysters/1,000 cm², respectively, on the cement plate from 4.4-4.6 oysters/1,000 cm². Common farming time is 12-18 months/crop for all three regions. The average production of harvested oyster in KV I, KV II and KV III is 2.5; 2.3 and 3.8 kg/m²/crop, while the average profit of KV I, KV II and KV III is 31.5; 30.2 and 15.8 million VND/m²/crop. The results showed that although the oyster culture by tire subtrate was less productive than that cultured by cement plate subtrate, due to the large scale of farming and the low investment costs, the higher profit margin was achieved.
