Abstract
The paper presents the research results about testing the tuna electric shock machine (the tuna shocker) on the pilot tuna fishing vessel (the TN vessel). The tuna Shocker has been tested with a suitable fishing procedure that used in the tuna hand-lining vessel with artificial light. From that basis, evaluating and comprising of pilot fishing procedure on the TN vessel and currently fishing procedure on the DC one was implemented. From 3 pilot fishing trips, from June 2018 to August 2018, the TN vessel fished 171 tunas corresponding with 7,478 kg compared to the DC vessel got 168 Tunas (6,630 kg). The TN vessel has 1.13 times higher yield than the DC vessel. The average CPUE of the TN vessel reached 19.5 kg/hook/day that are higher than of the DC vessel of 17.3 kg/hook/day. When using the tuna shocker, the tuna loss rate on the TN vessel was 3 times lower than the DC one. Particularly, the tuna caught about 100 percent when fishing with the Shocker; the tuna body temperature decreased significantly when using the tuna shocker, just about 27.9 Celsius degree compared to 28.8 Celsius degree on the DC vessel.
