Abstract
The study was conducted by interviewing 100 farmers of the shrimp-pineapple culture model at Go Quao - Kien Giang and experimenting with black tiger shrimp farming in pineapple ditches with different densities to evaluate the status of black tiger shrimp farming in the shrimp-pineapple culture model and the influence of the shrimp stocking density on the efficiency of shrimp farming in this model. The survey results showed that the average productivity of shrimp was 174.59 ± 36.80 kg/ha/crop, with an average total cost of 10.14 ± 0.557 million VND/ha/crop, revenue from shrimp farming reached 28,942 ± 15.71 million VND/ha/crop, the profit percentage was 18.80±10.40 million VND/ha/crop. The main disadvantages of shrimp culture in this model include the low level of education of farmers and limited technical and management knowledge; farmers lack money to be able to improve the system of farming as well as apply technical solutions; Shrimp seeds have not met the requirements in terms of quantity, quality, and time according to the recommended season; some farmers do not care about the quality of shrimp seeds; the management of seed quality and the water environment has not been paid attention enough. At the experimental densities, black tiger shrimp cultured in the shrimp-pineapple model with a density of 2 or 3 shrimp/m2 achieved higher economic efficiency than the culture at a density of 4 or 5 shrimp/m2.
