Abstract
A co-culture trial of silver pompano (Trachinotus blochii Lacépède, 1801) with sandfish (Holothuria scabra Jaeger, 1833) was carried out in ponds with an area of 500m2/pond-1 at the National Centre for Marine Breeding (NaMCen) in Van Ninh, Khanh Hoa Province. The co-culture ratio is 1:1 and the stocking density of each species is 2 ind. m-2. The silver pompano were weaned to pellet feed with a protein content of 43-55% (dry matter). During the 180-day culture period, the growth of the pompano fishes increased from 2.5 ± 0.0g to 272.2 ± 5.6g and the survival rate gained 85.85 ± 4.47%, while those of sandfish were 5.5 ± 0.1g to 301.9 ± 5.6g and 93.15 ± 5.02%, respectively. The results of this study will be useful for further research on this co-culture model at a larger scale that will enhance economic effectiveness and contribute to sustainable aquaculture development.
